The exhibition Ask Your Mom, held at the independent art space HOOD Base in Kadıköy from May 9–11, centered around the question “How do you maintain your relationship with yourself?” Bringing together over twenty young artists and designers from various disciplines, the exhibition explored themes such as self-care, social roles, belonging, and vulnerability. Through performative and visual practices, it invited a collective inquiry into how individuals negotiate their inner lives within the pressures of contemporary life.
As part of the exhibition, a parallel event titled Zine-Con was organized—a gathering dedicated to independent publishing and collective modes of expression. As contributors from the “Kısa Devre” and “Gıcırtı” fanzines, we took part in this vibrant platform. While these zines were not produced specifically for the exhibition, they were included due to their thematic alignment with resistance and solidarity. Through personal narratives and experimental visual strategies, they contributed to the broader discourse of the exhibition, reinforcing its critical engagement with the intersection of the communal, personal and the political.

Kısa Devre and Gıcırtı (from Bilgi University), Çatı ( from İTÜ) are zines produced by student collectives that have formed in response to the recent wave of campus-based resistance in Turkey. Developed through collaborative processes, these publications reflect a shared commitment to solidarity, critique, and grassroots cultural production. Their presence underscores the role of independent publishing as both a space of expression and a political gesture, amplifying the voices of students who continue to imagine and assert alternative forms of community, resistance, and dialogue within increasingly constrained academic and urban environments .
